We said goodbye to Bon Vivant for a long day’s trip (63 miles) to Vero Beach on Sunday. We were going to anchor nearby but when we filled up with fuel at the marina they had a slip so we took it. On Monday Skip Fuller came by for a boat tour then showed us around town and took us to his house/studio, then we grabbed breakfast with him and his wife.
Mary & Dave arrived Monday afternoon--so good to see Saugatuck peeps along the way! Had dinner at the local landmark Ocean Grille and a couple St Patricks Day drinks. The next day we borrowed their car to get groceries, I got a badly needed haircut (although it wasn’t a great one), and we had lunch before heading to the mainland side of town to wander around. Returned to beachside to do some shopping, have drinks at Ocean Grille, and dinner at the (great) local taco place.
On Wednesday Andrew drove the rental car to Sebastian and rode his bike back. Mary & Dave Ubered to the boat and joined us for the 14 mile/two hour cruise to Sebastian. It was a perfect day with great weather and lots of dolphins, pelicans, and other birds. Nice scenic stretch of the ICW, too. Lunch at Squid Lips left a lot to be desired, but we thoroughly enjoyed the visit!
We left the Burdens with their car in Sebastian and cruised another 20 miles to anchor at Eau Gallie/Melbourne.
