Andrew took Bill's van to Beaufort and rode his bike back, while Bill & I hung out; Bill got bagels while I took a shower. Then we all cruised to Beaufort. A little cloudy, had some rain, didn't see dolphins. Bummed it wasn't a better cruise for Bill.
Walked around town, had a drink at a pizza place/bar, then dinner at a place with a kooky waiter. Pretty good food.
Met a couple who are on Day 2 of the Loop, Frank & Sharon on Happy Hour.
Beaufort is an interesting combination of tourist stuff, some nice shops, a number of restaurants, but also a little hick thrown in. Hard to get a bead on it. A few nice blocks with older houses, porches, trees. Looks like maybe the waterfront street/houses lost trees in a storm?
This marina is ok, with a great location, nice docks, helpful dockhands, but bathrooms and showers badly need an upgrade. Super convenient that Bill was able to stay in his van in the parking lot.
Went for a walk with Bill then drove to Morehead City and had a delicious lunch at Sanitary Fish Market & Restaurant. Went to hardware store for a 'hatch cover' to keep light out of the berth (yay!), bank. and fish market for tuna and grouper. Walked around town, had a drink with the gnats. Then Bill grilled up tuna and made corn and brussel sprouts—delicious.
Had a great visit with Bill. He’s in amazing shape given all the health issues he's been through the last 8 years.
